About The Position

This is an entry-level Materials Engineer 1 role located onsite in Rockford, IL. The position involves participating on multidisciplinary engineering teams as the chemical/materials engineer for quality investigations. The role requires applying principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to validate hardware and/or process conformance to specification requirements. Responsibilities include interpreting specification requirements, communicating with Collins Operations sites and suppliers, and managing short-term projects to solve materials and process challenges in collaboration with Collins engineering teams. The role offers training and skill development in areas such as Root Cause Analysis (RRCA), process improvement, interpreting and updating aerospace material drawings and specifications, operating analytical instrumentation, and using the Collins CORE operating system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) major obtained by start date.
  • Experience in technical evaluations, communication, and reporting.
  • Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. national, U.S. permanent resident, or individual granted refugee or asylee status in the U.S.).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Aerospace materials and processes.
