Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
  • Experience with laboratory equipment such as; Universal Testing Machines (Instron, MTS), Hardness Testers, Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM), Optical Microscopes, Polishers/Grinders, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy, Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA)
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Instrumental Analysis and laboratory techniques (Instron testing, hardness testing, cross sectioning, microscopes, scanning electron microscopy, etc.)
  • Experience with troubleshooting analytical instrument problems, perform analysis, and interpret data
  • Experience with material safety datasheets, military specifications, and ASTM test methods
  • Experience with writing concise technical reports summarizing analyses
  • Experience with leading and completing large scale multi-disciplined scientific based projects including failure analysis investigations

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate materials based on conformance to specifications and performance requirements
  • Develop and/or validate appropriate materials, material properties, and processes for use on existing and new products
  • Provide resolution to technical, operational, and supplier problems related to materials and processes
  • Conduct hands on testing of materials using a variety of laboratory techniques
  • Follow standard written protocols, as well as developing and fabricating unique test plans and test setups
  • Review material documentation and assessment of specifications
  • Engage with subject matter experts to understand material usage
  • Engage with suppliers
