About The Position

The Material Handler with CDL License transports and delivers products and materials using a tractor-trailer, while also performing warehouse loading and unloading duties. The position includes preparing and inspecting the truck and trailer, securing and protecting loads, following delivery documentation and commercial driving regulations, and maintaining required driver and administrative records. The employee must maintain a forklift license and CDL endorsement, be insurable as a driver, and represent the company positively to customers. The work involves safety precautions around moving machinery and vehicles and may require heavy physical exertion.

Requirements

Must be insurable as a driver.
Must maintain a forklift license and CDL endorsement.
Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
Ability to perform the essential duties satisfactorily.
Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including lifting and moving objects and exerting force as described in the posting.
Ability to work safely around moving parts, machinery, pallet jacks, tools, and vehicles.

Responsibilities

Clean and inspect the truck before and after trips and submit reports indicating truck position.
Read bills of lading to determine assignments.
Fasten chains or binders to secure loads on trailers during transit.
Load and unload trucks, or assist with loading and unloading.
Drive trucks to various locations to deliver materials and obtain authorized signatures for requested supplies.
Service the truck with oil, fuel, and radiator fluid.
Obtain customer signatures for delivered goods and delivery charges.
Inventory and inspect goods to be moved.
Wrap goods using pads, packing paper, and containers, and secure loads to trailer walls using straps.
Drive tractor-trailer combinations to transport and deliver products while applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations.
Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following loading crew signals as needed.
Ensure the truck is equipped with safety equipment and perform safety checks.
Read maps and plan trips.
Maintain driver logs according to I.C.C. regulations, complete Abacus reporting, and perform other administrative duties required for the position.
Maintain a forklift license and CDL endorsement and remain insurable.
Assist in maintaining the truck’s mechanical safety, keep the truck clean and neat, and ensure the trailer is in working condition.
Load and unload warehouse trucks using a forklift.
Represent the company positively to customers.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed by the supervisor.
Follow safety and security procedures and applicable workplace policies.
