Material Handling - Forklift
About The Position
BlueLinx is hiring a Material Handler / Forklift Operator for its distribution center. The role involves safely handling building materials and supporting distribution and shipping operations. The position pays a fixed rate of $20.22 per hour, but no less than the local minimum wage; actual compensation depends on experience, qualifications, skills, geographic location, and other job-related considerations. The schedule is Monday through Friday. BlueLinx describes itself as a leading wholesale distributor of building and industrial products, with more than 2,000 associates and over 70,000 branded and private-label SKUs.
Requirements
- One year of recent forklift or warehouse experience.
- Ability to proficiently and safely use a forklift to transport products and load or unload trucks.
- Ability to understand and follow directions.
- Ability to work independently at times under pressure.
- Ability to handle physical tasks, including lifting up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to read and comprehend sales orders, purchase orders, safety materials, and similar documents.
- Safe work record and stable work history.
Responsibilities
- Operate a forklift in compliance with forklift training and safety guidelines.
- Load, unload, and store building materials from trailers or rail cars while minimizing damage.
- Store and retrieve materials, including piece-pick and/or bulk materials.
- Prepare paperwork required for product distribution and shipping.
- Perform daily inspections and maintenance of equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness in the work and assigned areas.
- Assist with periodic inventory counts as requested.
