About The Position
Hy-Vee Market Grille Clerks prepare and serve fresh, made-to-order food while providing friendly customer service and helping create a welcoming experience. They take orders at the counter and by telephone, keep products stocked and fresh, handle food safely, and maintain a clean work area. The role involves register operations, receiving and putting away products, and working with coworkers to support customer satisfaction. Clerks may assist elsewhere in the store or with special projects as needed. Training is provided, and employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- No education requirement; training is provided.
- Six months or less of similar or related work experience.
- Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions and complete tasks involving a few concrete variables.
- Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift.
- Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, point-of-sale transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.
- Complete a pre-employment drug screen successfully.

- Prior food service experience is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Provide prompt, friendly customer service and help make each visit positive.
- Take orders at the Market Grille counter and answer the telephone promptly, including taking product orders.
- Review daily orders, anticipate product needs, and prepare and replenish products as necessary.
- Retrieve products from coolers or freezers for cooking and ensure adequate food supplies are available.
- Handle food safely and monitor its freshness and appearance.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work area throughout the shift.
- Check in products, put them away, and review invoices as needed.
- Operate the department register, receive payments, and make change where applicable.
- Remove trash promptly and wash dishes as necessary.
- Price and order products and deliver orders as needed.
- Work as part of a team to support customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
- Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as assigned.
- Follow personal hygiene and dress standards, Hy-Vee policies, and store guidelines.
- Report to work as scheduled and on time.
