About The Position

The Market Grille Clerk serves made-to-order food and helps create a warm, welcoming customer experience. The role involves taking and preparing orders, keeping products stocked and fresh, handling food safely, maintaining a clean work area, processing transactions, and working with teammates to support quality service. The position is performed in a busy store kitchen environment. Training is provided, and employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

Requirements

No education requirement; training is provided.
Six months or less of similar or related work experience.
Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions and complete tasks involving a few concrete variables.
Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately.
Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas.
Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.
Night and weekend shifts are required.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

Prior food service experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and help make each customer visit positive.
Take customer orders at the Market Grille counter and answer the telephone promptly, including taking product orders.
Review daily orders, anticipate product needs, and prepare or replenish products as needed.
Retrieve products from coolers or freezers for cooking and ensure adequate food supplies are available.
Handle food safely and monitor food freshness and appearance.
Maintain a clean and sanitary work area.
Check in and put away products, and review invoices as needed.
Operate the department register, receive payments, and make change where applicable.
Remove trash promptly and wash dishes as necessary.
Price and order products and deliver orders as needed.
Work with co-workers as a team to support customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as assigned.
Follow personal hygiene and dress standards, Hy-Vee policies, and store guidelines.
Report to work as scheduled and on time.
