As a Market Analysis Engineer Intern at ISO New England, you’ll work alongside industry experts, explore real-world electricity market operations, and use data, optimization, and emerging AI tools to help support the power system that serves more than 14 million people across New England. ISO New England is one of the most important energy organizations you may not know yet. We oversee the 24/7 operation of the region’s power grid and administer New England’s wholesale electricity markets—helping ensure that more than 14 million people can count on reliable power every day. Our work sits at the intersection of energy, technology, economics, and public service. The Day-Ahead & FTR Market Applications team is a focused, collaborative, and results-driven group that develops and supports innovative solutions for efficient market operations and grid reliability. This team helps advance one of the nation’s most forward-looking electricity markets by combining technical expertise with practical problem solving. In this internship, you’ll gain hands-on experience with electricity market systems, market data analytics, optimization models, and AI-driven process improvements. You’ll help develop, enhance, and analyze market applications that support real-world operations and decision-making in the regional power system. Your work will provide valuable support for optimization and power market application initiatives that help improve market efficiency, strengthen analytical tools, and support reliable grid operations.
Requirements
- Completed at least the first year of college and currently enrolled in a four-year or graduate-level academic program.
- Authority to work in the US on a permanent basis, without requiring sponsorship.
- Interest in power systems, electricity markets, optimization, or energy technology.
- Coursework or knowledge related to Unit Commitment, Economic Dispatch, or power market fundamentals.
- Strong analytical thinking, curiosity, and problem-solving skills.
Nice To Haves
- Exposure to optimization solvers such as CPLEX or Gurobi is preferred.
- Python coding experience and interest in using AI for analysis are a plus.
