About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Marker-Grader for the PSYC 4P08, Data Science for Academic and Applied Research course for the Winter D3-1 term. This position is part of the CUPE4207-1 employee group. The compensation for Marker-Grader positions varies based on the employee's qualifications, with rates ranging from $19.00/hour for first-year undergraduate completion to $36.00/hour for a completed Master's degree. The total stipend is determined by course enrollment, calculated as 3 hours multiplied by the number of registered students. Duties and responsibilities align with Article 22 of the Collective Agreement and include marking essays and/or assignments, requiring availability at the end of the term to meet strict deadlines.

Requirements

  • Must have completed or be enrolled in PSYC 5Y51/52/61/62/71/72 or PSYC 7Y51/52/53/61/62/63/71/72/73, or 5F01, within the previous five years; OR Minimum 3rd Year complete and currently enrolled in a PSYC BA or BSc program, with an average of at least 80; and have taken this course within the previous five years, and achieved a grade of at least 80.
  • Must demonstrate a clear and thorough understanding of all aspects of the course to clearly explain all course topics.
  • Must have excellent communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Must have strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to keep accurate records/manage data.
  • Must have excellent time management skills in order to mark papers within a constrained turn-around time.
  • Must have strong writing and editing skills and a thorough understanding of APA writing style.
  • Must be adept at providing feedback to students in a constructive manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous successful experience as a TA or Marker-Grader in this course in an academic setting will be considered as equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Marking essays and/or assignments.
  • Being available at the end of term to mark papers within a constrained turn-around time.
  • Presenting material/conducting seminars remotely.
  • Maintaining contact with the instructor, fellow teaching assistants, and enrolled students by email and by audio-video conferencing and/or in-person meetings.
  • Conducting seminars and office hours via audio-video conferencing and/or in-person meetings.
