Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory•Laurel, MD

About The Position

The 2027 Maritime Software Development internship is with the Ocean Systems and Engineering team at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). The intern will work with engineers to develop advanced software solutions for the U.S. Navy, focused on maritime autonomy. The team emphasizes technical excellence, mentorship, innovation, and collaboration. The intern will develop and test applications and algorithms, including simulation, data analysis, and decision-making tools. They will participate in end-to-end software engineering in a cloud-enabled simulation framework, help build and refine simulation environments for evaluating Navy autonomy algorithms and systems, and work with multidisciplinary teams on software design evaluations, code reviews, and test strategy planning. Applicants should be studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field at the undergraduate or graduate level, with coursework or project experience in software design using C++, Python, or Java and a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicants must be able to obtain an Interim Secret clearance by the start date and ultimately obtain a Secret clearance; eligibility requires U.S. citizenship. The listed pay range is $22.60 to $47.95 per hour.
