About The Position

At Ford Motor Company, the Manufacturing Engineer-Body Shop provides manufacturing engineering leadership throughout a new model development program, from initial concept through launch at a final assembly facility. The role applies lean manufacturing principles to help deliver high-quality, efficient processes and products. It develops tooling and facilities based on product and process needs, leads virtual manufacturing assembly builds, resolves manufacturing issues, and interfaces with Design and Release activities. The position develops formal assembly process instructions and enters process sheets into the VPS system. It leads assembly tooling specification, purchasing, installation, start-up, and commissioning at the assembly site. The engineer tracks open tooling and process issues and drives them to closure, including exit-criteria deliverables such as cycle time, throughput, and workstation readiness. The role also prepares management presentations, drives quality, cost, and labor improvements, supports new model launches, delivers dimensionally in-spec parts, understands component data and system impacts, and develops cycle-line layouts with assembly plants to ensure operator and equipment workstations are ready for launch. Launch support involves extensive travel and work in a plant environment, including standing and walking. The role requires operating in stressful situations with timing constraints and working with minimal direct supervision. Up to 40–50% travel is required, including co-location at a North American assembly plant for nine or more months, depending on the scale of the vehicle launch. The position is hybrid; candidates within commuting distance of a Ford hub may be required to work onsite four or more days per week. Visa sponsorship is not available, and candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The position is salary grade 5–8, with a stated salary range of $63,480–$162,120. Final grade and salary depend on skills, experience, job scope, responsibility, and competitive market value.
