About The Position

Under the direction of the Assistant Director, Legal Talent, the Manager, Student Programs will have responsibility for the Student Programs, including related activities. This role involves coordinating student recruitment, managing the student program lifecycle, assisting with diversity and inclusion initiatives, leading committees, and managing the Legal Talent Team. The position is a permanent, hybrid role within a premier law firm.

Requirements

  • Law degree and undergraduate degree (preferred major: human resources, business, accounting, information systems, etc.) preferred
  • Experience in a law firm required
  • 1 or more years of professional development experience, preferred
  • Outstanding communications skills – oral, written and interpersonal; includes having intuition/common sense working with a variety of people and handling many situations
  • Ability to manage multi-faceted/complex activities, programs, projects, special events
  • Direct working experience in professional services industry an asset (e.g. Law, H.R., legal, accounting, education, consulting sectors, etc.)
  • Superior project management skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives while maintaining a high level of performance and attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate student recruitment, including the law school recruitment program (first- and second-year law student recruiting).
  • Present Firm educational activities at schools and in-house.
  • Serve as the Firm’s primary contact for law schools, participating in career fairs and firm initiatives.
  • Oversee all marketing activities related to the student program, including sponsorships and the Firm website.
  • Coordinate orientation, onboarding, secondments, and continuing legal education for summer and articling students.
  • Manage the work allocation program for summer and articling students.
  • Manage the student program budget, including annual forecasting and reporting.
  • Collect, review, and compile performance review feedback for summer and articling students.
  • Monitor student workload to balance utilization and ensure best performance.
  • Coach and develop summer and articling students.
  • Draft contracts for interns, summer, and articling students.
  • Develop and manage Student events and activities.
  • Liaise with the Ottawa office to ensure collaboration.
  • Assist with the development of diversity and inclusion programs for the student talent pipeline.
  • Assist the firm in maintaining and growing its current diversity and inclusion.
  • Lead the Student Development Committee and other assigned committees.
  • Assist with the day-to-day management of the professional development team.
  • Assist with conducting annual reviews.
