Manager, Special Projects

LatchBioSan Francisco, CA
$160,000 - $200,000Onsite

About The Position

Seeking a ruthlessly efficient, 0-1, adaptable Special Projects Manager to join LatchBio. LatchBio is building AI and data infrastructure to accelerate biopharma R&D, operating at the intersection of biology and computation. The surface area of problems is expanding fast, including finance, compliance, legal, hiring, vendors, product development, AI partnerships, infrastructure cost, real estate, and internal systems. This role is designed for someone to be a force multiplier with the COO and Chief of Staff, operating as their true body double. The individual will sit in ambiguity, size up messy problems, impose structure, and move them to resolution autonomously, without waiting for permission. This is not a role for discrete tasks, but for absorbing, thinking, deciding, and solving to conclusion with autonomy.

Requirements

  • Quick study: ability to quickly learn how to redline a customer contract, model complex finances, optimize an infrastructure bill, or figure out a plan to hire 60 engineers in 90 days.
  • Think in terms of bottlenecks: prioritize only active or impending company bottlenecks.
  • Executive mindset: ability to crush tiny details while maintaining sight of their connection to unified strategy.
  • High-agency and independent, with integrity: do not wait for direction; propose, execute, update, and close loops.
  • Know your audience: technically literate and able to communicate ideas, plans, and details with engineers, salespeople, scientists, ops people, designers, product people, etc.
  • Experience operating in a human data, AI, or SaaS startup.
  • Technical, finance, or intense operational background.
  • Extremely concise communication.
  • Bias toward action and iteration over perfection.
  • Genuinely enjoying this kind of work and bringing your personality to the team.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to create something spectacular out of messy context (Magician).

  • Track burn, forecast runway, pressure-test EBIT margins, analyze, and create real-time clarity on tradeoffs and bottlenecks (Financial Ownership).
  • Read contracts (MPAs, DPAs, SOWs, partnerships), assess risk, redline, and maintain structured oversight of obligations.
  • Evolve policies, controls, and documentation as the company grows without slowing velocity (Risk and Compliance Navigation).
  • Design systems that add clarity and accountability without killing speed, understanding how a 30-person company must operate differently than a 200-person company (Scaling Without Bureaucracy).
  • Move fluidly across HR, hiring, finance, compliance, legal, product, and engineering.
  • Connect dots others miss and prevent silos from forming (Cross-Functional Leverage).
  • Recalibrate quickly when priorities shift (Adaptive Execution).
