About The Position

The USTA (United States Tennis Association) is seeking a Manager, Special Projects to be responsible for the planning, management, and execution of Special Projects for the USTA BJK National Tennis Center. This role involves planning and developing operational plans for US Open After Action projects, the US Open food service program, capital project development, and After Action Report Management. The Manager will assist the Chief Operating Officer (COO), NTC, and Managing Director, Event Services, in the planning and execution of special projects, and manage industry vendors and agencies to complete these projects. Additionally, the role involves working with facility operations directors to manage structural and operational needs for US Open Sponsor Activations, researching and analyzing After Action Reports to create reports with recommended corrective actions, and overseeing capital project work. The Manager will also participate in the development of the US Open and NTC year-round foodservice program, evaluate its effectiveness, and develop improvements. This includes working with concession partners to address repairs and maintenance, assisting with the procurement of FF&E needs for major projects, maintaining an FF&E inventory system, and overseeing Premium Experiences. Collaboration with other USTA entities is also a key part of this role to ensure the success of their US Open activations and special events.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience with Event Management
  • A bachelor's Degree in Sports Management, Business, or a related field is required
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to understand and assess logistics
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office software and Google Workspace

Responsibilities

  • Plan and develop operational plans for US Open After Action projects, US Open food service program, capital project development, and After Action Report Management.
  • Assist the Chief Operating Officer (COO), NTC, and Managing Director, Event Services, in the planning and execution of special projects.
  • Manage the appropriate industry vendors and agencies to develop, troubleshoot, and complete all special projects both on and off-site.
  • Work with the Director, Facility Operations, and Sr. Director, Courts & Grounds, to implement and manage structural and operational needs for US Open Sponsor Activations.
  • Manage the researching, analyzing, and summarizing of the After Action Reports.
  • Create a report with corrective actions recommended to MD, Event Services & COO, NTC, and assist in the management and implementation of projects and new initiatives to roll out and utilize for After Action meetings.
  • Work with NTC, COO to organize, oversee, and monitor all phases of all capital project work.
  • Participate in the development of the US Open and NTC year-round foodservice program, evaluating the previous year’s foodservice program relative to the current year’s objectives, and developing a set of prioritized improvements each year for the program.
  • Focusing on concessions, work alongside Levy to ensure areas requiring repair and maintenance are addressed to improve operations and support new partners.
  • Work with the Director, Premium Seating & Experience, to assist with the procurement and buyout of FF&E needs for all major projects.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory system related to all FF&E items.
  • Work with Director, Premium Seating & Experience to oversee Premium Experiences including stadium court usage, private parties, corp outings, etc.
  • Communicate and partner with other USTA entities, including the USTA Membership Department, USTA Diversity Department, USTA Foundation, Community Tennis, etc., to ensure their individual US Open activation / special events' success and carry out project initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned by MD, Event Services & COO, NTC
