Manager, Software Engineering - External Platform
About The Position
Figma’s External Platform team builds and operates mission-critical platforms that enable customers to build on top of and with Figma. The team owns MCP, REST API, and Gateway integrations used by millions of people working across design and code. As an Engineering Manager on External Platform, you will lead a team of senior engineers working across engineering, operations, and platform strategy. You will partner with major customers, Legal, Program Management, and Figma’s engineering and product leaders to turn shared goals into durable, scalable outcomes. The role focuses on the reliability and extensibility of external platforms, including infrastructure supporting Figma’s fastest-growing products and APIs and frameworks used by internal teams and customers. This role is suited to someone who can work in ambiguous, cross-functional environments, amplify the impact of experienced individual contributors, and deliver outcomes through platform leverage. It is full-time and may be based at Figma’s NYC hub or remotely on the East Coast of the United States.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of engineering management experience leading high-performing, fast-moving teams.
- At least 8 years of total engineering experience.
- Experience managing platform teams with a focus on reliability and extensibility.
- A track record of motivating, mentoring, and growing experienced engineering leads.
- Experience building and scaling engineering teams and organizational structures.
Nice To Haves
- Engineering management experience in the AI platform space.
- Engineering experience reaching staff level as an individual contributor.
- Experience with MCP infrastructure and integrations.
- Experience with LLMs or AI gateways.
- A background in adjacent infrastructure domains.
Responsibilities
- Lead, grow, and support a team of engineers building foundational infrastructure for Figma’s AI products.
- Partner with customers and engineering and product leaders across Figma to define technical strategy and manage day-to-day project execution.
- Hire, coach, and develop senior and staff engineers to scale the team.
- Engage deeply with technical details and decisions as needed to help deliver a robust AI platform with urgency.
