About The Position

The Director, Platform Software Engineering will lead development of systems, workflows, service context, and safety controls that help engineers and AI agents understand services, automate repeatable work, safely make and validate changes, and improve production reliability. The role sets platform technical and delivery direction, hires and develops a Nashville-based engineering team, and partners with OCI service owners to turn fragmented operational knowledge and manual processes into reusable capabilities. The goal is to deliver practical AI-enabled engineering solutions that reduce operational toil, improve service resilience, and make OCI services easier and less costly to evolve and operate. The director defines platform strategy and standards for runtimes, SDKs, and integration frameworks; governs compatibility and security controls; and owns group-wide resilience and capacity objectives. The role guides software design, architecture, quality, performance, APIs, customer issue resolution, security and compliance, and development operations across multiple teams. It also oversees planning and execution, collaboration, problem solving, learning, continuous improvement, and performance and talent development.

  • Improve design and development practices to optimize performance and meet organizational priorities.
  • Direct teams in resolving API functionality and integration issues and implementing API versioning, lifecycle, and interoperability strategies.
  • Direct software, systems, and services architecture; coach managers on architecture decisions and best practices; and ensure adherence to architectural standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align architecture with business and customer goals, and direct performance and scalability strategies and technology evaluation processes.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders, including executive leadership, to understand customer issues and align solutions.
  • Direct customer support prioritization, advocate for customer interests, guide product enhancements based on feedback, and promote timely issue resolution and effective communication.
  • Direct training for customer issue and defect handling, and lead investigation of complex product maintenance issues and development of short- and long-term solutions.
  • Establish, follow, and enforce documented security criteria, industry best practices, processes, and coding standards; implement secure development practices to prevent vulnerabilities.
  • Direct periodic system maintenance, testing, upgrades, and patching, including for critical vulnerabilities; ensure adherence to service contracts and terms.
  • Evolve development standard operating procedures and ensure automation, testing, and debugging that support service availability, health, support, and reliability.
  • Oversee multiple teams managing complex projects and initiatives, including timelines, deliverables, and budgets when applicable; delegate work, set priorities, and adjust resources or timelines as business needs change.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration and build partnerships with business leaders, stakeholders, and customers while promoting transparency and inclusivity.
  • Provide oversight on complex operational and technical issues, coach teams through ambiguous problems and root-cause analysis, and share problem-solving strategies.
  • Pursue strategic learning and create opportunities for team members and leaders to develop expertise; identify organizational skill gaps and support knowledge sharing.
  • Empower teams to improve processes, protocols, and workflows; secure feedback and buy-in; and review improvement roadmaps for strategic alignment and return on investment.
