About The Position

This role is responsible for managing the property security & life safety program, ensuring compliance with legislative, industry, and company standards. It also involves managing the occupational health & safety (OH&S) program to prioritize workplace safety and adhere to OH&S legislative codes and company standards.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 7 years working in a commercial real estate security environment, ideally in positions of increasing responsibility – or equivalent work experience
  • A minimum of 7 years of security management experience, ideally at a property or properties of complex scope (i.e. large, mixed-use facility) – or equivalent work experience
  • Solid understanding of collective agreements and security manpower contracts
  • Proven knowledge in basic accounting including the development and administration of capital and operational department budgets
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Gmail
  • Some knowledge of Security and Life Safety technology (i.e. CCTV, Access Control, Fire Alarm, Intrusion) and other security-related systems)
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable federal, provincial and municipal legislation and regulations in the area of Security and Life Safety management
  • Sound knowledge of industry techniques and emergent trends in Security and Life Safety management, as well as Risk Management and Crime Prevention

Nice To Haves

  • Community college diploma (or equivalent business management qualification) in Security/Life Safety, Risk Management or Criminology-related field is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate the operational security and life safety program, including resource allocation and the implementation and monitoring of work schedules/duties.
  • Manage the property fire & life safety program, along with the OH&S program, ensuring compliance with legislative codes, industry practices, and company standards.
  • Chair the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JH&SC) and ensure occupational health and safety is prioritized and effectively practiced.
  • Implement and maintain a program of regular inspections and risk assessments to identify and correct hazardous or unsafe working conditions.
  • Manage the emergency response and business continuity program, including the preparation and upkeep of Emergency Response Plans (ERP), Business Continuity Plans (BCP), and Fire Safety Evacuation Plans.
  • Manage crisis communications to support timely and effective notification of applicable parties during emergencies.
  • Ensure company emergency management standards are maintained, including tenant and supplier conduct, staff training, plan upkeep, drills, debriefs, and notification systems.
  • Manage a security incident reporting process to capture, report, and analyze security incident data.
  • Manage electronic security systems and technology, ensuring proper operation, supervision, and maintenance.
  • Manage a physical security program to maintain access control and ensure security measures effectively deter, delay, control, and/or respond to security threats.
  • Respond to calls for service and security-related incidents as required, and perform other operational duties as assigned by the General Manager.
  • Prepare and administer Security and Life Safety Department operating and capital budgets, coordinating financial forecasting and reporting, and optimizing revenues and expenditures.
