About The Position

Euna Solutions is seeking a Data Architect for a 12-month contract to define the reference architecture, engineering patterns, and governance approach for its data program. The role combines architectural leadership with hands-on delivery, including building data products when the team needs additional support. The Data Architect will design a managed AWS foundation and layered data model, with governance across data classification, personally identifiable information (PII), access control, lineage, and residency. The architecture will support reliable operations with a small team, loosely couple data capture from operational systems, and provide reusable patterns that teams can apply consistently. The role will also establish criteria for when low-code workflows are appropriate and create contextual or semantic data layers to support more efficient downstream AI features. The position is hybrid, with three days per week in the Atlanta, Georgia office (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). The remaining workdays depend on the role and manager. The engagement is for 12 months.

Requirements

  • Senior data architecture experience with production AWS systems, including S3-based lake or lakehouse designs and a governed analytical layer.
  • Deep fluency with medallion or other layered data architectures and the governance controls applied across them.
  • Experience designing contextual or semantic data layers to reduce GenAI token consumption.
  • Hands-on knowledge of managed AWS data services such as Glue, Athena, Lake Formation, and DMS, or equivalent; strong preference for managed services over self-run services.
  • Proven experience designing for data classification, PII handling, access control, lineage, and residency.
  • Ability to define an appropriately scoped blueprint without over-engineering, defer work the backlog does not need, and provide clean, documented patterns for a small team.
  • Interest in exploring emerging technologies and using AI responsibly to augment professional expertise.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with dbt and warehouse-side modeling, such as Redshift.
  • Familiarity with low-code orchestration such as n8n.
  • Experience with Canadian data residency requirements and multi-region AWS deployments.
  • A track record of establishing governance from day one rather than retrofitting it later.
  • Experience in a regulated or public sector context.

Responsibilities

  • Define a managed AWS reference architecture designed for reliability and low operational overhead.
  • Specify a layered data model from raw through cleansed and curated data to a safe analytical layer that contains no sensitive data.
  • Establish governance across data layers, including data classification, constituent PII handling, access control, lineage, and residency.
  • Create reusable engineering patterns for data capture, land-and-store, transform-and-serve, and governance.
  • Design loosely coupled data extraction from operational systems using change-data-capture or scheduled extracts, avoiding hard dependencies on operational-system roadmaps.
  • Define guardrails that make the governed, pattern-based path the default and specify narrow criteria for permitting low-code workflows.
  • Build data products hands-on when the delivery team needs additional support.
  • Design contextual or semantic data layers that reduce GenAI token consumption and improve the speed and cost of downstream AI features.
  • Hand off clean, documented architecture and patterns that a small engineering team can execute.

Benefits

  • Twice-yearly Eunafier Days, each adding an extra day to a long weekend.
  • Up to eight hours per year of Philanthropy Time for community causes.
  • Development support through budget, mentorship, and opportunities to take on larger roles or move into new areas.
  • Hybrid work arrangement, with three days per week in an office and remaining days determined by role and manager.
