About The Position

Affirm is hiring a Manager of Sales Engineering to lead and develop a team of Sales Engineers supporting enterprise merchant partners as they evaluate and integrate Affirm. The manager will develop deep knowledge of Affirm’s products, APIs, and integration options; lead technical sales conversations; and provide hands-on support when the team needs coverage or technical leadership. The role also strengthens the team’s ability to build, test, and troubleshoot integrations in sandbox or simulated merchant environments. Sales Engineers are part of the Partner Engineering team and collaborate with Revenue, Engineering, and Product to address merchant challenges, identify product enhancements, and build scalable internal processes.

  • 4–6+ years of experience in Sales Engineering, Solutions Engineering, or a comparable customer-facing technical role.
  • 3–4 years of people management experience.
  • A track record of developing technical talent, setting clear expectations, and holding teams accountable for results.
  • Ability and willingness to remain hands-on while managing a team, including leading technical customer conversations and helping advance deals.
  • Practical experience building, testing, and troubleshooting API-based integrations.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language.
  • Strong technical judgment and ability to translate business requirements into integration recommendations, explain tradeoffs, and identify implementation risks.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build credibility with developers, business stakeholders, and senior leaders.
  • Passion and drive to change consumer banking for the better.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of Sales Engineers, setting expectations for technical proficiency, merchant engagement, and performance.
  • Participate in deals alongside the team, supporting technical discovery, integration discussions, and solution presentations.
  • Partner with merchant technical and business leaders when leadership involvement is needed.
  • Develop and maintain working knowledge of Affirm’s products, APIs, and integration options to evaluate solutions, explain tradeoffs, and resolve technical blockers.
  • Build, test, and troubleshoot integrations in sandbox or simulated merchant environments, and coach the team in these capabilities.
  • Use AI development tools in technical work and coach the team in applying them to prototypes, integrations, and testing while maintaining accountability for code quality and correctness.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Revenue to design merchant solutions, address integration gaps, and win new business.
  • Translate merchant requirements and recurring technical challenges into product feedback and improvements to internal processes.
  • Create a respectful and supportive team environment where diverse perspectives contribute to decisions and team members receive clear feedback and growth opportunities.
