About The Position

Under the direction of the Associate Director, Events and Facilities, the Manager, Events works collaboratively with representatives from a range of groups at the Henry N.R. Jackman Faculty of Law to coordinate and oversee a variety of events and related activities. These include events hosted by academic areas, research centres, departments, student groups, partner organizations, and external clients, with audiences that may include students, faculty, staff, alumni, members of the business community, government representatives, and the media. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing Jackman Law’s classroom and event space bookings, including conference facilities, meeting rooms, lounges, the Moot Court Room, and classrooms. The role serves as a primary contact for event and venue-related inquiries and works closely with faculty, staff, event conveners, vendors, and external clients to support the successful delivery of events, venue operations, and client services. The Manager, Events also provides day-to-day operational direction to staff supporting event operations, while contributing to process improvements, operational workflows, and initiatives related to event planning, space utilization, and service delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum five years related experience in conceptualizing, organizing and executing events in a complex organization, preferably within a higher education or public sector environment
  • Demonstrated experience with full-cycle event planning for a high volume of events, including marketing, registration, and post-event evaluation
  • Demonstrated experience with facilities and event coordination for a high volume of events, meetings, events and room bookings
  • Demonstrated experience with planning in-person, online, and hybrid events
  • Experience writing and editing promotional copy for websites, social media, print materials, etc.
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, scheduling and tracking the status of events and classroom activities
  • Experience planning events in compliance with AODA
  • Demonstrated experience handling event expenses, collaborating on cost estimates, preparing financial summary reports, and monitoring program accounts
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience
  • Superior planning and project management skills
  • Ability to manage a high volume of competing priorities and deadlines
  • Demonstrated strong customer service skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc. as well as skill using database software
  • Familiarity with content management systems (e.g., WordPress)
  • Proficiency with customer relationship management (CRM) or email marketing tools (e.g., Mail Chimp)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Availability to work overtime on weekdays, and occasional overtime on weekends
