About The Position

The Manager Accounting oversees an Accounting team responsible for recording and reporting financial transactions and executing Sarbanes-Oxley controls. The role supports accurate and timely financial statements, collaborates across the business on financial records, forecasting, planning, and customer needs, and identifies and leads improvements to the efficiency and effectiveness of processes.

The manager oversees the monthly and quarterly close, reporting and analysis, account reconciliations, audit and regulatory support, and accounting-related projects. The position also manages and mentors accountants, develops team performance, and encourages a collaborative and inclusive working environment. Work is varied and difficult, requires judgment and initiative, and is performed under minimal supervision. The role may require overtime, weekend work, and limited travel.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent.
• 7–10 years of related experience.
• Knowledge of accounting theory, principles, practices, and regulations, including FASB/GAAP and SOX compliance.
• Ability to document a broad range of issues in work papers, disclosures, and memos.
• Strong analytical skills, including the ability to evaluate data and exercise judgment.
• Demonstrated successful use of technology to improve process efficiency.
• Effective communication and presentation skills.

• Demonstrated project management skills.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

• Oversee and support the monthly financial statement close process, ensuring financial transactions are recorded accurately and on time.
• Ensure Sarbanes-Oxley controls operate effectively and identify necessary changes.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly reports and analyses for internal and external reporting.
• Research variances, identify data trends and root causes, and recommend adjustments or enhancements.
• Review, approve, and analyze account reconciliations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional business partners to resolve accounting issues and support planning, forecasting, regulatory, and business decision processes.
• Present operating results to leadership and provide insights and recommendations for business decisions.
• Work with internal and external auditors and support required audits.
• Support regulatory processes and respond to data requests, including those involving external stakeholders.
• Analyze accounting processes and procedures and use emerging technologies to recommend, develop, and lead improvements.
• Participate in and lead special projects involving process improvement, automation, or changes in regulatory or accounting requirements.
• Manage and mentor accountants, supporting their professional growth and high performance.
• Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment and support Exelon and Finance cultural pillars.
