About The Position

This position oversees and participates in the work of employees engaged in the upkeep, maintenance, and repair of buildings and related structures. The role involves maintaining records of work progress, materials, and equipment used. There are currently 3 potentially open positions, on 2 shifts: Shift: 1st Shift (Sun-Thurs) up to one position, and Shift: 1st Shift (Tues-Sat) up to two positions. The basic purpose of this role is to oversee and participate in the upkeep, maintenance, and repair of state buildings and related structures.

Requirements

  • At least two years of full-time or equivalent part-time, experience in building maintenance, repair and/or construction or in a building construction trade.
  • Ability to supervise, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished, the capabilities of subordinates and available resources; controlling work through periodic reviews and/or evaluations; determining subordinates’ training needs and providing or arranging for such training; motivating subordinates to work effectively; determining the need for disciplinary action and either recommending or initiating disciplinary action.
  • Knowledge of the types and uses of equipment and materials used in building maintenance and repair work.
  • Knowledge of the safety practices and procedures followed in building maintenance and repair work.
  • Knowledge of the standard preventive maintenance procedures followed in connection with building structures.
  • Knowledge of the types and uses of small hand tools such as pliers, chisels, hammers, etc.
  • Knowledge of the types and uses of hand-held power tools such as drills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds.
  • Physical stamina and endurance.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Manual dexterity.
  • Ability to communicate instructions in a precise, understandable manner.
  • Skill in using small hand tools such as pliers, hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.

Benefits

  • Step 1 $2,064.64 bi-weekly with Step 7 $2,442.59 bi-weekly and Step 14 $2,875.23 bi-weekly.
