About The Position

This position oversees the general care, maintenance, repair, alteration, and security of state buildings and appurtenances. Incumbents supervise the maintenance and repair of state buildings, the cleaning of building interiors, and the upkeep of grounds. They ensure that standards of security and cleanliness are maintained. This is an internal opportunity, meaning only current UML Employees are eligible to apply.

Requirements

At least two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in building maintenance, with major duties including building custodial services.
Knowledge of safety precautions and procedures in building maintenance.
Knowledge of equipment, materials, and methods used in building custodial work.
Knowledge of the proper uses of cleaning supplies and materials.
Knowledge of the types and uses of hand held power tools (e.g., drills, electric hand saws) and small hand tools (e.g., hammers, wrenches).
Knowledge of the types and uses of small measurement devices (e.g., levels, rulers, steel squares).
Knowledge of methods and procedures for building and property security.
Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
Ability to understand, explain, and apply relevant laws, rules, regulations, procedures, guidelines, specifications, policies, and standards.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as plans, specifications, blueprints, and drawings.
Ability to follow instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships.
Ability to assemble information according to established procedures.
Ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively, including precise and understandable instruction delivery.
Ability to maintain a calm demeanor in stressful and emergency situations.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to exercise sound judgment.
Current Valid Driver’s License.
Ability to supervise, including planning and assigning work, controlling work through reviews/evaluations, determining training needs, motivating subordinates, and initiating disciplinary action.

Nice To Haves

Minimum of 3 years’ supervisory experience directly/indirectly supervising at least ten employees.
Ability to prioritize the needs of personnel and work to be completed.
Strong computer skills including email, and basic Word and Excel.
Experience in mentoring and coaching staff.
Experience in writing and communicating performance evaluations and providing on-going feedback.
Experience in managing inventory levels and ordering supplies and equipment in compliance with budget review.
Ability and willingness to be Essential Personnel.
