About The Position

The Maintenance Technician Apprentice position provides an opportunity to learn Old Dominion Freight Line maintenance shop operations and company culture while attending school. The part-time apprentice learns to repair company equipment safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively, including preventative maintenance, general repairs, troubleshooting, and electronic diagnostics. The apprentice also completes a project during the apprenticeship and presents it at the conclusion. Upon completion, the apprentice may be considered for future employment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Currently attending a Diesel Truck Maintenance Degree Program.
• Minimum GPA of 2.5.
• Willingness to learn maintenance shop operations and complete assigned projects.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Shadow maintenance shop team members in roles including Maintenance Technicians, Parts Coordinators, Supervisors, and Managers to learn shop operations.
• Learn to repair company equipment effectively and safely.
• Learn to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and other breakdowns or failures involving motor trucks or related equipment.
• Gain knowledge of precision instruments and electronic diagnostic tools.
• When applicable, learn basic welding techniques and about metals used in truck repairs.
• Gain a basic understanding of DOT, EPA, ICC, and OSHA rules and regulations.
• Complete an assigned project and present it at the conclusion of the apprenticeship.
