About The Position

The Maintenance Apprentice develops the skills needed to support the maintenance function and ensure effective operation of bakery equipment. The apprentice learns to perform inspections, preventive and predictive maintenance, emergency maintenance, and mechanical repairs so equipment remains safe and operationally efficient.

The role focuses on completing required coursework, much of which is online, and gaining practical on-the-job training while working with qualified Maintenance Mechanics. The apprentice works toward milestones established by Maintenance Leadership and begins a progression path toward becoming a Maintenance Mechanic.

Requirements

• Fluent in English.
• Pass the required exam or test for acceptance into the apprenticeship program.
• Flexibility to work any shift, weekends, holidays, and overtime as scheduled.
• Ability to attain basic maintenance skills.
• Ability to attain basic computer skills.
• Ability to work above ground level with proper safety training and safety equipment.
• Ability to work in a non-air-conditioned environment.

Responsibilities

• Learn the safety, mechanical, troubleshooting, communication, and behavioral skills needed to meet minimum qualified mechanic standards.
• Complete required coursework to develop maintenance skills.
• Learn to perform preventive maintenance on bakery equipment.
• Assist with inspection and upkeep of machinery and equipment.
• Learn to repair or replace components on motors, pumps, mixers, conveyor lines, ovens, coolers, and related equipment.
• Learn to inspect and replace belts, hoses, and drive components as needed.
• Develop proficiency in maintaining equipment integrity and completing timely repairs.
• Complete and document equipment work orders.
• Ensure equipment is maintained, guarded, and operated according to safety regulations and procedures.
• Understand equipment-related line downtime, waste, and their causes.
• Proactively identify areas for improvement.
• Participate in team root-cause problem solving.
• Identify potential cost savings and cost avoidance.
• Encourage associates to work safely and follow established safety procedures.
