About The Position

This is a support role that works alongside the Sites and Facilities Superintendent to learn and help lead all aspects of the Sites and Facilities Department. Young Life camps facilitate leader-centered ministry in the lives of kids and provide extraordinary environments where kids can encounter Jesus and grow in their faith. The entire Young Life camping experience is a strategy for supporting the mission, vision, values and methods of ministry that we uphold. Young Life’s Washington Family Ranch is a large facility with a wide range of commercial and residential systems and equipment. The candidate filling this job would be part of a 14-person talented and dedicated Facilities Maintenance team providing services across the entire facility. Washington Family Ranch is a remote property (located one hour from the closest grocery store) with a large dedicated staff that results in approximately 120 people living year round at camp. There are two camps located here: a high school focused camp (Canyon) and a middle school camp (Creekside). Affordable housing is available on property.

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency in 2-3 trades, ability to teach/lead other staff in those trades
  • Ability to organize and supervise people and tasks
  • General knowledge of multiple plant systems
  • Positive, flexible attitude and willingness to learn
  • Physically able to do the work
  • Must be capable of spending most of the workday standing or walking.
  • Must be adaptable to all work environments, inside and out.
  • Must be capable of working on projects over/above head, as well as bending, kneeling, crawling in/around attics, crawl spaces, etc.
  • Capable of digging, shoveling and raking various compounds.
  • Profess a belief in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord.
  • Subscribe to the statements and policies required of all Young Life staff, including the Young Life Statement of Faith.
  • Be ready, willing and able to fulfill such ministry functions as may be required by the organization.
  • Refrain from conduct and statements that detract from the biblical standards taught and supported by Young Life.
  • Abide by all policies and practices of Young Life including, without limitation, those related to religious belief or ministry activities.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of Young Life’s ministry strategy and participate in providing excellent camping experiences for individuals to encounter Jesus Christ and know the truth of God’s love for them.
  • Lead staff and prepare an environment where guests, staff, and volunteers are well cared for by preparing a distraction free environment for kids to encounter Jesus Christ.
  • Staff must be able to convey a sense of Christ-like hospitality and concern for guests and staff.
  • Responding to the unexpected needs of a guest in a prompt and professional manner is important.
  • All staff members are expected to represent Young Life positively and professionally within the community and be able to work with and minister to the volunteer high school and college-age young people who attend our camp.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification(s) in electrical, plumbing, framing, waste water or HVAC desired
  • Ability and willingness to obtain certifications.

  • This includes full and part-time camping staff, in addition to maintenance summer staff, work crew, volunteers and other people who may be assisting with a maintenance or project function on the property.
  • At all times, maintain a pleasant, positive attitude toward staff and others involved in the program, conveying the idea of maximum service consistent with the capabilities of the property and equipment.
  • Work closely with the site and facilities superintendent, guest services coordinator and assigned staff on all matters involving use of the property for the program.
  • Cooperate with all other departments on the property to operate as a team and produce a well-functioning body.
  • Relate to the local community in a manner best suited to carry out the public relations policy of Young Life as presented by the camping manager.
  • Manage with integrity the finances, people, buildings and equipment that have been entrusted to our ministry through Sites and Facilities.
  • Develop and equip interns and volunteers to participate in comprehensive stewardship of Sites and Facilities department.
  • Support an environment where volunteers feel valued both as contributors and as people.
  • Supervise staff whom the site and facilities superintendent may assign to you, both summer and winter. This includes full and part-time camping staff, in addition to maintenance summer staff, work crew, volunteers and other people who may be assisting with a maintenance or project function on the property.
  • Work closely with the work crew and summer staff bosses in making the work experience a positive time of personal growth for the individuals that have volunteered their time at the property.
  • Maintain operating records as required by the site and facilities superintendent.
  • Through a consistent and accountable evaluation process, we identify and provide opportunities for staff in continuing education, leadership development, career-pathing and cross-training.
  • Demonstrate a desire to grow through engagement in the Individual Development Plan process and participation in training and development opportunities.
  • Standing on the platform of national standards and metrics we gladly prepare an environment that glorifies Jesus Christ.
  • Execute daily responsibilities with attention to the standards and metrics required for excellent camp operations.
  • Develop a commitment to uphold the Young Life Food Service Standards as listed in the Food Service Manual.
  • Develop an understanding of the Young Life Standards and how they affect the way you conduct yourself with staff, guests, and volunteers.

  • Duties of this job could include, but are not limited to, preventative maintenance and one-time tasks/projects involving the following: Hydronic boiler and chiller systems, Residential heat pump systems, Refrigeration systems, Commercial food service and ware-washing equipment, Commercial laundry equipment, Propane fired boilers, heaters, and appliances, Air handling equipment, Pumps, Various control-related devices including sensors, valves, dampers, etc., Programmable controls and BMS (Building Management System)
