About The Position

The Maintenance Service Technician—also described as a Handyman—repairs common service problems associated with manufactured housing and helps maintain a successful model home center. The role involves responding promptly to service calls, completing repairs thoroughly and on time, and providing exceptional customer service. The position requires a broad range of handyman skills, reliability, organization, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to customer satisfaction. The technician must be able to perform strenuous physical tasks and work in varied weather conditions. A reliable van or truck is required for service calls; compensation is provided for business-related vehicle use. Clayton offers hourly pay of $19.00–$24.00 depending on experience, benefits, and professional development opportunities. The company describes opportunities for advancement and notes that home centers are closed on Sundays.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Reliable, dependable, and friendly, with a solid work ethic and pride in one's work.
- Strong organization, time-management, and prioritization skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Hand-eye coordination and physical strength; ability to stoop, bend, lift, and climb.
- Numerous and varied handyman skills.
- Reliable van or truck usable for service calls.
- Ability to lift and move items such as furniture, wallboard, and water heaters weighing up to 100 pounds.
- Endurance to perform strenuous tasks.
- Ability to climb ladders safely.
- Ability to work in all environments, including extreme heat or cold, rain, and snow.
- Strong customer relations skills.
- Ability to contribute to a team environment and collaborate with others.
- Valid driver's license and auto insurance.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and post-offer drug screen.
Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance to maintain property appearance and condition.
- Complete service requests.
- Perform preventative care on HVAC and other systems.
- Repair exterior and roof damage.
- Respond promptly to service calls and complete repairs thoroughly and in a timely manner.
- Provide excellent customer service.
