Maintenance Manager

Contour GlobalHobbs, NM
Onsite

About The Position

As Maintenance Manager, you will join our Operations team at the ContourGlobal Hobbs Generating Station. In this role, you will report to the Plant Manager and lead all maintenance activities at our 604-MW, 2x1 combined-cycle gas-turbine (CCGT) facility in Hobbs, New Mexico. The plant is equipped with two Mitsubishi M501F gas turbines, a GE D11 reheat steam turbine, and two heat-recovery steam generators (HRSGs), delivering firm capacity to Xcel Energy under a long-term power purchase agreement. You will own the plant’s preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs—driving asset reliability, regulatory compliance, and safe execution of routine work and major outages. This role balances hands-on technical leadership with the planning, budgeting, and team development required to keep a high-availability merchant asset performing at the top of its class.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering preferred; equivalent military or technical experience considered.
  • 10+ years of progressive maintenance experience in power generation, heavy industrial, or process industries, with at least 5+ years in a maintenance leadership role at a combined-cycle, simple-cycle gas turbine, or large thermal power plant.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with F-class gas turbines (Mitsubishi M501F preferred; GE 7FA or Siemens SGT6-5000F considered), reheat steam turbines, HRSGs, and balance-of-plant rotating equipment.
  • Proven track record planning and executing major gas-turbine outages (CI/HGPI/MI) and steam-turbine overhauls on schedule and on budget.
  • Prior team leadership experience required (union or non-union); strong experience managing CMMS platforms (Maximo, SAP PM, Infor EAM, or similar).
  • Deep technical knowledge of gas-turbine, steam-turbine, generator, HRSG, water/steam chemistry, water treatment, and BOP systems; familiarity with DLN combustion systems, SCR/CO catalysts, and CEMS.
  • Working knowledge of NERC reliability standards, EPA/NMED environmental compliance, OSHA programs, NFPA 70E electrical safety, and predictive maintenance technologies (vibration, oil analysis, infrared thermography, ultrasound).
  • Solid grasp of reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), root cause analysis (RCA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and maintenance KPI management.
  • Strong financial acumen for O&M budget management, contract negotiation, and capital project justification; excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • A degree in Engineering, or Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) certification.
  • OEM-specific training: Mitsubishi Power M501F maintenance, GE D11 steam-turbine, John Cockerill/Aalborg HRSG, or comparable combined-cycle equipment training.
  • Experience operating in a merchant-market or PPA-backed asset; experience leading plant performance improvement projects (heat-rate, availability, cost).
  • Familiarity with Distributed Control Systems (Emerson Ovation, ABB, or similar).

Responsibilities

  • Direct the plant’s preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs across gas turbines, steam turbine, HRSGs, generators, balance-of-plant (BOP) rotating equipment, switchyard, and DCS controls, in line with OEM recommendations and EPRI/ASME/NERC best practices.
  • Build and maintain long-range maintenance plans aligned with Mitsubishi M501F combustor inspection (CI), hot-gas-path inspection (HGPI), and major inspection (MI) intervals, GE D11 steam-turbine overhaul cycles, and HRSG inspection schedules.
  • Own the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), ensuring accurate equipment hierarchy, work-order quality, PM compliance, spare-parts inventory, and reliable maintenance history records.
  • Develop and execute the annual maintenance O&M and minor-capital budgets, controlling labor, contractor, and spare-parts spend to within ±3% of plan.
  • Plan, schedule, and execute scheduled outages and major inspections on gas turbines, steam turbine, generators, and HRSGs—coordinating OEM service teams (Mitsubishi Power, GE Vernova), specialty contractors, and internal crews against an integrated critical-path schedule.
  • Lead outage work-scope reviews, long-lead parts procurement, contractor mobilization, and quality holds; manage LTSA/CSA service agreements, warranty claims, and contractor performance.
  • Drive root-cause analysis (RCA/RCFA) on forced outages and equipment failures, implementing durable corrective actions to improve Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and reduce Equivalent Forced Outage Rate (EFOR).
  • Champion the plant’s safety culture by enforcing Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, hot work, fall protection, NFPA 70E electrical safety, and other OSHA programs across all maintenance activities; target zero recordable injuries (TRIR) and zero Lost Time Incidents.
  • Ensure compliance with EPA, NMED, and other federal/state environmental permits—including Title V air permits—through disciplined maintenance of emissions-critical equipment (DLN combustors, SCR/CO catalysts, CEMS).
  • Maintain NERC reliability compliance (PRC, MOD, FAC standards) for testing and maintenance of generators, protection systems, and primary plant equipment; support regulatory audits, EHS reporting, and incident investigations.
  • Lead a team of 10–20 maintenance professionals (mechanical, electrical, and I&C technicians, planner/schedulers, and front-line supervisors); recruit, develop, and retain top talent, and establish technician qualification programs for M501F, D11, and BOP equipment.
  • Drive plant performance against industry-leading KPIs: Equivalent Availability Factor (EAF) >95%, Equivalent Forced Outage Rate (EFOR) <3%, Starting Reliability >98%, PM compliance >95%, schedule compliance >90%, planned vs. unplanned ratio >80/20, and maintenance cost per MWh trending favorably year-over-year.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, EHS, and corporate Asset Management; report monthly on asset health, reliability metrics, and outage performance to the Plant Manager and CG Operations leadership. Model CG values and serve as a role model for operational excellence, safety, and ethical business practices.
