About The Position

The Mailroom Clerk position is a full-time role located in Arlington, Virginia. This role requires a SECRET clearance. The primary responsibilities involve the reception, screening, sorting, and distribution of mail, as well as processing outgoing mail and logging accountable mail. Safe mail handling procedures and emergency protocols must be followed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • One (1) year of functional experience in operating a centralized mail room
  • One (1) year of functional experience in operating an automated supply inventory management system
  • SECRET clearance

Responsibilities

  • Receive all incoming mail and screen it in accordance with established security procedures, checking return addresses, postmarks, and addressees against official directories.
  • Sort all screened mail by internal destination, separate misrouted mail for return to sender, and forward sorted mail to the appropriate clerks for final distribution.
  • Process all outgoing mail for pickup by designated carriers such as the United States Postal Service (USPS) or FedEx.
  • Log all incoming and outgoing accountable mail (e.g., Certified, Registered, Express) into the designated Access database.
  • Open mail only when required and follow all established guidance for safe mail handling and emergency procedures.
