About The Position

PGS Worldwide is seeking a Secret-Cleared Machinist in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania for an approximately 14-month onsite contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. This position will set up and operate conventional machine tools to manufacture precision metal parts, tooling, and mechanical components to exacting engineering tolerances.

Requirements

  • Active Secret clearance or higher required prior to starting.
  • 4+ years of machine-shop or machining experience.
  • Experience setting up and operating lathes and milling machines.
  • Experience with basic machine-shop equipment.
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Ability to independently perform machine setups and determine machining sequences.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications.
  • Experience using machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to determine appropriate tooling, feeds, speeds, cuts, and setup methods.
  • Ability to perform standard shop calculations involving dimensions, tooling, feeds, and speeds.
  • Ability to measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points for machining.
  • Experience manufacturing parts to close tolerances.
  • Formal machinist apprenticeship, equivalent technical training, or comparable hands-on experience.
  • U.S. citizenship required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating precision grinders, shapers, planers, or additional conventional machine tools.
  • Experience modifying programs on numerically controlled or NC machines.
  • Experience assembling precision-machined components into mechanical equipment.
  • Experience monitoring and verifying product quality using statistical process control or similar quality procedures.
  • Aerospace or defense machining experience.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate lathes, milling machines, precision grinders, and related machine tools.
  • Manufacture precision metal parts, mechanisms, tooling, and components to engineering requirements.
  • Interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical specifications.
  • Determine machining sequences, required cuts, tooling, and setup methods.
  • Set and adjust feeds, speeds, tooling, and machining parameters.
  • Use precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Perform shop calculations supporting machining operations.
  • Lay out stock by measuring, marking, and scribing dimensions and reference points.
  • Fit and assemble precision-machined parts into mechanical equipment.
  • Determine materials, parts, and equipment required for machining operations.
  • Modify NC programs when required.
  • Monitor and verify finished-part quality in accordance with applicable control procedures.
