General Dynamics Ordnance & Tactical Systems•San Diego, CA
•$51,000 - $69,000

About The Position

The Machinist II operates computer- or mechanically controlled machines to produce and repair metal parts used in manufacturing. The role analyzes engineering specifications, blueprints, and design sketches to determine part dimensions, features, tolerances, and machining requirements. It selects suitable machine tools and tool-operation sequences, manually sets up and adjusts equipment, and may recommend design revisions or material substitutions to address machinability or fabrication problems. The position works within established procedures and quality guidelines, performs manual tasks under close supervision, and assembles, repairs, and fabricates parts or machine components. It also involves maintaining equipment, checking machined-part accuracy with precision instruments, and assembling components into sub-units or complete units as needed. Work may take place indoors or outdoors, involve changing climate conditions and machinery operation, and require a different shift or work outside normal business hours. The role is safety-sensitive and requires regular movement around company facilities.
