About The Position

The Machinist II manufactures detailed parts and tools from blueprints, sketches, drawings, or verbal instructions using computer-controlled and mechanically controlled machine tools and equipment. The role sets up and operates mills, lathes, CNC equipment, grinders, and other machining equipment; uses mathematical and geometrical calculations and precision measuring instruments to calculate dimensions and maintain tolerances; and installs, aligns, secures, and adjusts cutting tools and workpieces. The machinist monitors machine feed and speed, examines finished products for defects, and deburrs surfaces to ensure parts meet specifications. The position may involve complex machining operations for prototypes and experimental activities, assisting engineers with product design, development, and evaluation, and recommending product or manufacturing improvements. The Machinist II sets up low-complexity, unproven parts and may set up proven parts of medium to high complexity. The position also sets up, operates, and maintains CNC milling and turning centers, retrieves job information, selects appropriate tools and workholding, records production and process details in an ERP system, and conducts precise inspections. The machinist participates in continuous improvement, maintains a clean and safe work area, and may help develop machining methods and tooling for complex parts.
