Machinist - ID/OD Grinding
About The Position
Operate cylindrical grinding CNC machines for production purposes of miscellaneous rotary products as per customer specifications. This role requires strong mechanical and shop math skills, the ability to use precision measuring instruments, and familiarity with machine tools and equipment. The machinist will be responsible for selecting, mounting, and dressing grinding wheels, adjusting machine feeds and speeds, changing tooling, and troubleshooting machine malfunctions. Maintaining cleanliness of equipment and the work area, wearing proper PPE, and performing routine maintenance are also key aspects of the job. The position requires a High School diploma or equivalent and previous CNC machining experience in cylindrical grinding or a related field, or a trade school diploma. The ability to work overtime is also required.
Requirements
- Strong mechanical skills.
- Strong shop math skills.
- Must be able to use precision measuring instruments including micrometers and calipers.
- Familiarity with machine tools and equipment.
- Ability to communicate and work well with others.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Previous CNC machining experience in cylindrical grinding or other related fields, or trade school diploma.
- Ability to lift 35 lbs. on occasion.
- Ability to stand for extended periods – 2 hour periods.

Responsibilities
- Operate cylindrical grinding CNC machines for production purposes of miscellaneous rotary products as per customer specifications.
- Compute numbers, widths and angles of tools, micrometers, scales, and gauges and adjust tools according to customers specifications.
- Select, mount, and dress grinding wheels.
- Adjust machine feed & speed, change tooling, or adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if machines malfunction.
- Use precision measuring instruments and hand tools to verify conformance of finished work pieces to specifications.
- Maintain cleanliness of equipment and work area.
- Wear proper PPE while in work areas of the shop.
- Perform routine maintenance on machinery.
