This position involves carrying out the machining and fitting of all kinds of metal parts, tools, and machines with minimal supervision. The role requires interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, written specifications, and schematics to perform work accurately. Responsibilities include setting up and operating various machines and machine tools, performing progressive machining operations on parts with close tolerances or unusual requirements, and determining operation sequences. The machinist will skillfully use all machinists' hand tools, determine the machinability of metals, and select appropriate tooling and application parameters (feeds, speeds). Experience, trade skill, and knowledge of machine shop practice are essential. Operation of CNC machines, including a working knowledge of programming fundamentals, is required. All work produced must consistently meet specifications. The role also includes monitoring coolant quality and changing coolant as needed, performing daily/weekly TPM tasks with accuracy and consistency, and undertaking other duties as assigned by the supervisor within the same or lower salary grade.
