This position involves carrying out the machining and fitting of all kinds of metal parts, tools, and machines with minimal supervision. The role requires interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, written specifications, and schematics to perform work accurately. The machinist will set up and operate various machines and machine tools, performing progressive machining operations on work requiring close tolerances or unusual specifications. This includes determining operation sequences, skillfully using machinists' hand tools, and understanding the machinability of metals to select appropriate tooling and application parameters (fields, speeds). Experience, trade skill, and knowledge of machine shop practice are essential. Operation of CNC machines, including a working knowledge of programming fundamentals, is also required. All work produced must consistently meet specifications. Responsibilities include monitoring coolant quality and changing it as needed, performing daily/weekly TPM tasks with accuracy and consistency, and undertaking other duties as assigned by the supervisor within the same or lower salary grade.
