Machinist B - Fourth Shift
About The Position
This position involves carrying out the machining and fitting of all kinds of metal parts, tools, and machines with minimal supervision. The role requires interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, written specifications, and schematics to perform work accurately. The machinist will set up and operate various machines and machine tools, performing progressive machining operations on work requiring close tolerances or unusual specifications. This includes determining operation sequences, skillfully using machinists' hand tools, and understanding the machinability of metals to select appropriate tooling and application parameters (fields, speeds). Experience, trade skill, and knowledge of machine shop practice are essential. Operation of CNC machines, including a working knowledge of programming fundamentals, is also required. All work produced must consistently meet specifications. Responsibilities include monitoring coolant quality and changing it as needed, performing daily/weekly TPM tasks with accuracy and consistency, and undertaking other duties as assigned by the supervisor within the same or lower salary grade.
Requirements
- Requires experience, trade skill and knowledge of machine shop practice.
- Operation of CNC machines including working knowledge of programming fundamentals is required.
- Two (2) year Vocational/Accredited school graduate, or equivalent plus three (3) years of experience.
- Requires knowledge of machining practices and techniques, basic mechanical principles and shop mathematics, setups, tooling applications, operating methods, and machinability of materials.
- Must be a sole US Citizen.
Responsibilities
- Carries through to completion with minimum supervision the machining and fitting of all kinds of metal parts, tools, and machines.
- Interprets engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, written specifications, and schematics to properly layout and perform work.
- Sets up and operates all available machines and machine tools and performs progressive machining operations on work involving very close tolerances or unusual requirements.
- Determines operation sequences.
- Uses skillfully all machinists’ hand tools and determines machinability of metals to determine proper tooling selection (geometry) and application (fields, speeds).
- Operates CNC machines including working knowledge of programming fundamentals.
- Ensures work produced consistently meets specification.
- Monitors coolant quality and changes coolant as required.
- Performs daily/weekly TPM tasks with accuracy and consistency.
- Performs other duties as designated by supervisor in the same salary grade or below.
