About The Position

By the Yard is a family-owned manufacturer of maintenance-free outdoor furniture and accessories. The company makes its furniture from recycled milk jugs and emphasizes eco-conscious operations and green initiatives. Under the direction of the Production Supervisor, the part-time Machine Operator works in the Mill Room, operating machines, tools, and equipment to complete orders to quality standards. The role follows work instructions, patterns, and part specifications; verifies product quality and quantities; completes required paperwork; and follows housekeeping, safety, and work rules. Team members may also perform assembly and other duties as needed.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Must be at least 18 years old due to the machines and equipment used.
Experience using tools such as a drill and screw gun.
Ability to perform basic mathematical and measurement calculations.
Ability to understand and follow written, verbal, and demonstrated directions.
Excellent attention to detail.
Ability to work closely and efficiently with coworkers.
Regular attendance according to the management-approved work schedule.
Experienced candidates will have at least two years of relevant manufacturing experience, preferably in woodworking or cabinetry.

Nice To Haves

Experience operating a variety of saws, drill presses, and CNC machines.

Responsibilities

Machine material to meet part specifications using work instructions and/or patterns.
Complete paperwork accurately and verify part quality and quantities.
Set up and operate saws, drill presses, CNC machines, hand drills, and other hand tools.
Operate a forklift if certified.
Follow part specifications to produce machined parts.
Comply with housekeeping standards and all safety and work rules and regulations.
Recommend improved processes and methods to the manager where possible.
Perform some assembly as needed.
Identify and resolve problems efficiently.
Perform a variety of duties as part of the team.
