About The Position

The Luau Male Dancer / Fire Knife Dancer works under the supervision of the Luau Stage Manager and in conjunction with the Luau Show Line Captains to support the daily operations of the Luau Show. The role helps maintain performance standards set by the Luau Artistic Director and presents authentic Hawaiian and Polynesian songs, dances, and skits before, during, and after the show while providing an excellent guest experience.

Responsibilities

• Attend and participate in all scheduled show rehearsals and trainings.
• Attend pre-shift and post-shift meetings.
• Complete assigned pre-shift and post-shift duties, including cleaning dressing rooms and backstage areas.
• Ensure daily preparations for the Luau Show are in order, including costumes and equipment.
• Follow the daily performance schedule for each show.
• Dress according to the standards for each show number.
• Maintain the quality of choreography for each performance.
• Keep equipment, instruments, costumes, and supplies in good condition.
• Greet guests with leis and take pictures with them.
• Participate in the Imu ceremony as needed.
• Perform the torch-lighting ceremony when it is in operation.
• Perform the pre-show.
• Learn and perform all dance numbers and songs in the show.
• Assist other dancers in learning and performing all dance numbers and songs.
• Make personal accessories and adornments using fresh greens, including ti leaf skirts, leggings, neck adornments, kupe’e, Tahitian hip and hei adornments, and other items as required.
• Care for and maintain costumes and accessories for each dance number.
• Assist the immediate supervisor in gathering costumes for weekly washing.
• Supply and maintain personal items needed for performances, including hair spray, a water bottle spray, brushes, a horse brush, a comb, hair-colored rubber bands, black biker shorts, black bikini-style underwear, and other items as directed.
• Provide an excellent guest experience to support overall guest satisfaction.
• Attend and participate in required department and company meetings and training.
• Perform other duties as directed by a supervisor or management.
