About The Position

Works under the direction of the charge nurse and other licensed personnel to provide nursing care within the objectives, standards, and policies of the department. Is responsible for the distribution of medication according to the physicians order and plan of care. Cooperates with all members of the nursing team and other departments as it relates to the care of the resident.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately administer medications, observing the six rights: Right resident, Right medication, Right dose, Right time, Right route, Right documentation.
  • Record information concisely, accurately, and completely.
  • Responsible for all medications on assigned cart.
  • Perform narcotic count with oncoming shift and relinquish keys to on-coming shift.
  • Administer breathing treatments as ordered by the physician.
  • Check and record blood pressure and pulse accurately, and re-check as necessary.
  • Report any unusual condition or reaction to the charge nurse.
  • Prepare and administer medications using Punch, Initial, Give (PIG) method.
  • Perform skills such as Foley cath care, peg tube-stoma site care, and hang tube feedings as ordered by physician.
  • Stock medication cart as necessary.
  • Keep medication room and treatment cart clean and in order.
  • Re-order medications to ensure medications are readily available at the time of administration.
  • Adhere to all standards and policies of Infection Control.
  • Serve as a preceptor to all new personnel and assist in orientation of new personnel.
  • Assist Nurse Aides as necessary to ensure continuity of care.
  • Properly perform simple skin/wound treatments and/or assist RN or LPN with more complex treatments as indicated.
  • Perform any other duty as assigned.
