About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Orthopedic Clinic provides patient care and clinical support to orthopedic physicians and healthcare providers. This role focuses on assisting with patient evaluations, treatments, procedures, and patient education to ensure high quality, efficient care in an outpatient orthopedic setting.

Requirements

  • Highschool Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Graduate of an accredited LPN program.
  • Active LPN license in the State of Louisiana
  • CPR Certification for Health Care Providers is required
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EHR)
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Interpersonal skills and compassion
  • Analyzing information, critical thinking, and problem solving
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and use good judgement in assessing difficult situations
  • Current knowledge and experience using medical terminology
  • Self-motivated and can work independently, as well as part of a team

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working within a surgical practice environment including but not limited to Orthopedic and General Surgery, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist orthopedic physicians and providers during patient examinations and procedures
  • Prepare patients for visits, including obtaining medical histories, vital signs, and chief complaints
  • Apply and remove casts, splints, braces, and dressings as directed
  • Assist with injections and minor orthopedic procedures
  • Perform wound care and post-operative follow-up care
  • Educate patients on treatment plans, post-procedure care, medications, and mobility restrictions
  • Answer patient messages, return phone calls, and respond to clinical inquiries in a timely and professional manner
  • Follow up with patients regarding test results, imaging findings, and provider instructions
  • Schedule patient appointments, procedures, and follow-up visits
  • Administer medications and injections in accordance with clinic policy and scope of practice
  • Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring proper sterilization and equipment readiness
  • Coordinate imaging, referrals, and follow-up appointments
  • Order, stock, and replenish medical and office supplies, monitor inventory levels
  • Document patient care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR) system
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, safety standards, and clinic policies
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and always ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • All other duties assigned by immediate supervisor.
