About The Position

Ravenscroft is seeking a Long Term Substitute Teacher to join its Lower School faculty for the Spring 2027 semester. We are looking to welcome a Lower School teacher into a community of educators who actively strive to be diverse, equitable, and inclusive. Our candidates should demonstrate empathy, knowledge, and an understanding of the diverse backgrounds in our community; place an importance on genuine and authentic connections with students, faculty, staff, and parents; be able to work collaboratively with team members of diverse backgrounds; and have the capacity to model an attitude of unyielding curiosity and a growth mindset. The lead teacher in this role brings energy, humor, and passion for teaching Lower School students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Training and experience teaching and learning with Lower School students and faculty
  • Ability to work with young students who vary in ability and learning styles, both nurturing and challenging as necessary
  • Demonstrated success meeting the individual needs of learners and differentiating instruction
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and technology skills
  • Professionalism and grace in dealing with people at all levels
  • Demonstrated success working with students and colleagues in and outside of the classroom
  • Leadership ability

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree
  • Professional development and/or experience teaching English Language Arts using a Science of Reading–based approach

Responsibilities

  • Bring energy, humor, and passion to teaching Lower School students as the classroom's lead teacher
  • Approach the work in an innovative, forward-thinking, and growth-minded manner
  • Apply a solid understanding of the developmental needs of young children
  • Provide classroom instruction that is aligned with current best practices and is student-centered
  • Partner with students, parents, and colleagues in a positive and professional manner
  • Participate actively in the work of the division in developing best practices for teaching
  • Collaboratively engage in the work of the grade level to develop and implement curricular and co-curricular offerings
  • Participate in other aspects of the School community (e.g., advising a student club, athletics, committees)
