About The Position

Stake Center Locating is hiring entry-level Locate Technicians to locate underground utilities, troubleshoot, and mark the ground with paint and flags to promote damage prevention in the community. The company provides on-the-job instruction and 100% paid training, along with equipment and technology for the work. Technicians work outdoors in all weather, generally independently, and use problem-solving skills to complete locating work accurately and efficiently.

The role includes receiving, documenting, and processing tickets and email on a laptop; reading maps and interpreting blueprints; selecting the best locating method and sequence; and using locating equipment and technology to identify underground utilities. Technicians communicate with peers, managers, and homeowners. The schedule may be flexible according to ticket and production volume, with some evenings, weekends, occasional holidays, and emergency calls during scheduled on-call rotations.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years old.
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Hold a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Be able to walk up to 5 miles per day, 2–3 times a week.
• Be able to carry up to 5 pounds of electronic locating equipment for extended periods; lift objects up to 25 pounds or lift more than 75 pounds with tool aids.
• Pass pre-employment background and drug screenings.
• Be willing to work outdoors in all weather, independently, and use problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize safety while performing locating work.
• Use a laptop to receive, document, and process tickets and email.
• Read maps and interpret blueprints to determine the best method and sequence for locating utilities.
• Use provided locating equipment and technology to accurately locate underground utilities.
• Communicate effectively with peers, managers, and homeowners.
• Respond to emergency calls during scheduled on-call shift rotations.
