About The Position

This position supports the Local Agency Unit in the delivery of local agency transportation projects through various phases of project development and construction. The unit works with local agencies, CDOT staff, FHWA, consultants, contractors, and other partners to help ensure projects meet applicable plans, specifications, standards, and requirements. In this role, you will assist Local Agency project managers and coordinators with construction oversight, field inspections and materials testing, documentation, invoice and quantity review, progress payments, and plan reviews. You will also help guide local agencies through established Local Agency processes and support coordination between project partners and CDOT specialty groups.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Four (4) years of experience in any combination of the following: Project management, assisting in the design of construction plans, monitoring construction projects by conducting materials testing, project inspection or documentation.
  • OR Education from an accredited college or university with coursework in engineering, civil engineering technology, construction management, project management or other relevant coursework may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
  • College transcripts and/or Official NACES Report is required if using education to substitute for experience.
  • Experience in Project management, assisting in the design of construction plans, monitoring construction projects by conducting materials testing, project inspection, and documentation will be considered.
  • Must pass a pre-employment screening which may include social security number trace, criminal records check, public court records check, educational records, and driving records checks.
  • A current valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Support Local Agency Project Managers/Coordinators with oversight of local agency projects to help ensure construction complies with project plans and specifications.
  • Assist local agencies in following the Local Agency Manual and coordinate with CDOT specialty groups as needed.
  • Use programs such as SAP, ProjectWise, and MS Office Suite to create project documentation, enter information, and track project status.
  • Review contractor work and work procedures in the field for compliance with construction plans and specifications.
  • Review inspection reports for contractor work descriptions, calculations, and accuracy.
  • Review and consult with the Professional Engineer (PE) on change orders prepared by local agencies.
  • Review Methods of Handling Traffic (MHT) for compliance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
  • Review construction pay estimates submitted by local agencies and provide recommendations to the Project Manager/Coordinator for approval or denial.
  • Review as-built plans for compliance with project specifications and ensure required project closure items are completed before final payment and project closeout.
  • Complete assigned training, including Transportation Engineering Training Program (TETP) courses, and study CDOT Local Agency Manuals to build knowledge necessary to perform job duties.
  • Travel to meetings and project sites as required.
