About The Position

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Infrastructure, is currently seeking Inter-Agency Coordinators to join the Program Management Unit – Engineering and Support Services’ Front-End Planning – DEP Coordination team or DOT Coordination team. These individuals will play a crucial role in identifying critical issues during the scope development of Capital Infrastructure projects, with an emphasis on replacement, reconstruction, and upgrade of DEP or DOT facilities and appurtenances including but not limited to distribution and trunk water mains, storm, sanitary, combined sewers, as well as runoff outlet structures such as outfalls. The individuals will also perform review on joint DOT scope associated with DEP project limits inclusive of various street and roadway improvement initiatives, including Roadway, Plaza, SBS, Pedestrian Safety, Raised Crosswalk, and Green Streets & Vision Zero projects.

Requirements

  • Permanent in the Associate Project Manager title, or reachable on DDC’s promotional list for exam #3573 or the open-competitive list for exam #3110.
  • Must include a copy of your Notice of Results or indicate if you are permanent in the title.
  • Currently authorized to work full-time in the United States (U.S.).
  • Must present original documents proving citizenship or the legal right to work in the U.S.
  • Educational credentials must be from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited institution. Credentials from foreign institutions require independent equivalency verification from an approved evaluation service.
  • One year of full-time satisfactory experience in supervising employees performing project management work, such as planning, administering, managing, coordinating, or expediting, on engineering and/or architectural and/or landscape architectural projects, or supervising a construction project with a value of $1,000,000 or more.
  • Either: A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration, or public administration, and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in project management work, such as planning, administering, managing, coordinating, or expediting, for engineering and/or architectural and/or landscape architectural projects; OR A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of experience as described above; OR A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus any combination of college or university education and/or experience described above to make up the equivalent of five years of education and experience.
  • One year of experience credit will be given for: each 30 semester credits of college or university education leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration, or public administration; a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in one of the disciplines described above; a Juris Doctor degree, or a valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer, Registered Architect or Registered Landscape Architect.
  • Where experience which is primarily of a design nature is not acceptable towards meeting the qualification requirements.
  • In addition to meeting the qualification requirements for Assignment Level I, candidates must have at least one additional year of experience as described in '1' above in a supervisory capacity or have served for at least one year as a project manager for a large and/or complex construction project.
  • In addition to meeting the qualification requirements for Assignment Level I, candidates must have at least two additional years of experience as described in '1' above in a supervisory capacity or have served for at least two additional years as a project manager for a large and/or complex construction project.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing proposed conceptual/schematic designs submitted by Sponsor(s).
  • Assisting in the development of comprehensive final project scopes, cost estimates, and baseline schedules.
  • Performing data assessment.
  • Conducting site visits.
  • Identifying feasibility and constructability issues.
  • Proposing alternative solutions.
  • Evaluating broader aspects such as City Initiatives for climate risks, resiliency, and sustainability, along with environmental impact, mitigation needs, acquisition, and local regulations.
  • Preparing presentation materials.
  • Leading internal Strategy meetings.
  • Conducting Workshops.
  • Coordinating with external stakeholders such as DOT, DEP, DPR, OMB, City Hall, Community Boards, and elected officials.
  • Interfacing with various in-house personnel and consultants to prepare final assessment reports.
  • Transitioning projects into initiation.
  • Maintaining and updating project tracking systems via the agency’s database.
