About The Position

This role focuses on facilitating skill development for a diverse client group, including youth and adults with various backgrounds and barriers such as disabilities, recent immigration, homelessness, literacy challenges, and contact with the criminal justice system. The position involves tutoring in literacy (reading, writing, math), facilitating group workshops on essential life and self-advocacy skills, and developing employment preparation skills.

Requirements

  • Currently attending or attended a post-secondary institution
  • Between the age of 15 and 30 years old
  • Studying in one of the following fields: Criminology, Social Work, Psychology, Community and Social Services or Community and Justice Services emergency services
  • Work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to multitask
  • Comfortable working with diverse groups of people
  • Flexible

Responsibilities

  • Tutoring in literacy (reading, writing, math) and computers
  • Group workshop facilitation in communication, problem solving, life skills, study strategies, self-management and self-advocacy skills
  • Facilitate the development of employment preparation skills such as job search strategies, interview, resume and application writing skills as well as job maintenance strategies
