About The Position

The Museum School is currently seeking applications for a K–3 Literacy Coach. The K-3 Literacy Coach is a school-based instructional leader responsible for improving early literacy outcomes by supporting teachers, strengthening Tier I instruction, and ensuring implementation of evidence-based reading practices aligned with the science of reading. This role is a key component of Georgia’s statewide literacy initiative to ensure all students read on grade level by the end of third grade. The Literacy Coach will work collaboratively with school leadership and instructional staff to build teacher capacity, analyze student data, and implement a comprehensive literacy program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Georgia certification in appropriate field of education
  • Minimum of five years of documented successful classroom teaching or literacy intervention experience in K-3
  • Demonstrated expertise in early literacy instruction
  • Extensive knowledge of scientifically based teaching research, special expertise in quality reading instruction and intervention, dyslexia specific interventions and data analysis
  • Experience developing instructional resources, delivering professional learning opportunities, and working with best practices in literacy instruction and curriculum development
  • Prepare to demonstrate competency through approved, periodic, practice based assessment that verifies the coach’s ability to apply the science of reading, learning science, and instructional science to deliver explicit, systematic, evidence based literacy instruction directly with students.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and implementation skills
  • Effective written, oral, and presentation skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based and science of reading-based literacy coaching across grades K-3, while also embedding the museum school model
  • Coach educators using nonevaluative, evidence based practices, including modeling instruction, analyzing instructional practice and data, providing actionable feedback, and delivering side-by-side classroom support
  • Synthesize student performance data and educator practice data to establish coaching goals and design targeted needs, based support for educators
  • Analyze student data, including screening, diagnostic, and progress monitoring data, to inform instruction, grouping, and intervention within a multi-tiered system of supports framework
  • Spend no less than 70 percent of the school day in classrooms working directly with students and teachers
  • Collaborate with school leaders and instructional coaches to create a K-3 strategic literacy coaching plan
  • Prioritize time for the teachers, activities and roles that will have the greatest impact on student reading achievement, such as coaching and mentoring in classrooms
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of evidence based literacy curricula and instructional materials with fidelity, ensuring alignment to the science of reading
  • Monitor personal progress through reflection and creation of a Professional Growth Plan
  • Participate in Professional Development workshops and opportunities
