About The Position

Read Better Be Better is looking for part-time (5-10 hours/week), passionate, After-School Literacy Program Coaches to facilitate our after-school reading program. They are responsible for guiding and mentoring a cohort of young Readers and youth Leaders. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy reading and working with young learners and are seeking part-time employment. The organization's mission is to connect young readers and youth leaders to inspire a love of literacy and leadership, addressing Arizona's literacy crisis through after-school and community-based reading programs in partnership with schools and organizations. The team is growing, and they seek new members who appreciate a mission-driven, collaborative community of passionate and creative individuals. As a Program Coach, you will work with elementary school students in a dynamic after-school club atmosphere, which is a fast-paced environment filled with reading, learning, and games. Program Coaches attend essential paid training and onboarding prior to starting at their assigned school. In the RBBB K-1 Program, Coaches train 4th/5th-grade "Leaders" in RBBB's curriculum to foster reading confidence skills in Kindergarten/1st-grade "Readers". In the RBBB 2-3 program, Coaches train middle school "Leaders" in RBBB's curriculum to foster reading confidence skills in 2nd/3rd-grade "Readers". The primary role is to facilitate the literacy program, ensure curriculum progress, and promote a safe and healthy learning environment. Weekly, Program Coaches from the same school district meet (virtually or in-person) with their Program Coordinator to share successes, address concerns, and receive materials. Program Coaches also attend professional development workshops during the semester, and the program concludes with a graduation event at the assigned school. The program is semester-based, and coaches are encouraged to return each semester. Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities.

Requirements

  • Must have a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Classroom management skills.
  • A patient personality.

  • Enrolled in a relevant degree program (i.e. teaching, educational studies, youth & early childhood development, social justice, etc.).
  • Experience working with children in a school setting.
