About The Position

The Listening Project, housed in the Center for Careers, Life, and Service (CLS), is a bridge-building initiative that convenes community members from diverse backgrounds to engage in facilitated dialogue, fostering mutual listening and learning. Over the past four years, the project has successfully conducted over 30 dialogue sessions, both on campus and within the community, addressing topics such as healthcare access and bridging political divides, with more than 500 participants. We are seeking two students to join our facilitation team. Student facilitators will receive comprehensive training in dialogue design and facilitation. Their responsibilities will include planning and facilitating dialogues, typically occurring once or twice a month, on campus and in the community. This role offers a significant opportunity for students aiming to enhance their dialogue skills and deepen their engagement with the Grinnell community. Student dialogue facilitators are expected to commit 5-10 hours per week. This position operates under the Student Union Contract and can satisfy federal work-study requirements.

  • No dialogue facilitation experience needed - you will get all the training you need

  • Curiosity and a willingness to try to understand people, even those you disagree with
  • An interest in getting involved in the Grinnell Community

Responsibilities

  • Planning and facilitating dialogue events on campus and in the community, which happen at least once a month
  • Attending weekly facilitation training
  • Helping with outreach for dialogue events
