About The Position

The Service Leadership Work Study Program (SLWS) is a community engagement program that provides students with an on-campus employment opportunity where they work with local community organizations. By working closely with local community organizations, students in the program get a sustained opportunity to engage with local issues while also interacting with a broad range of community members. The program also provides a peer learning community that supplements the work done by the students at their various work-sites and that provides opportunities for shared learning and collaboration. The positions in the program, which fall under the Student Union contract and pay the standard campus wage, can also fulfill federal work-study requirements. This position, which is for 4-6 hours per week, will support The Mayflower Community. The Mayflower Community seeks to provide a retirement community that affirms the dignity and worth of each individual and responds to ongoing and emerging resident needs and wellness. Mayflower is looking for two SLWS students, who will operate as a bridge between the Mayflower Community and the college community in both supporting programming for residents and supporting extended learning opportunities for student volunteers around aging, holistic wellness, senior care, and community development. The aim of the Mayflower SLWS position is to create meaningful one-on-one relationships with seniors and volunteers at the Mayflower retirement community. Students in the position will help with organizing opportunities for residents and students to interact with one another and will coordinate student volunteers. We are looking for two students for this position, both of whom can expect to work 4-6 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Provide creative and holistic wellness activities and programs for both independent residents and residents in the Health Center and Beebe Assisted Living Apartments
• Create meaningful and interactive programs that encourage a connection between residents and student volunteers
• Promote multi-sensory, cultural, educational, entertaining activities, and events in a small group setting
• Raise the visibility of Mayflower’s work on campus and in the community in order to attract volunteers
• Recruit individual and small group volunteers for specific programming needs
