The Service Leadership Work Study Program (SLWS) is a community engagement program that provides students with an on-campus employment opportunity where they work with local community organizations. By working closely with local community organizations, students in the program get a sustained opportunity to engage with local issues while also interacting with a broad range of community members. The program also provides a peer learning community that supplements the work done by the students at their various work-sites and that provides opportunities for shared learning and collaboration. The positions in the program, which fall under the Student Union contract and pay the standard campus wage, can also fulfill federal work-study requirements. This position, which is for 5 hours per week, will support the Mid-Iowa Community Action. Mid-Iowa Community Action, Inc. (MICA) is a private, non-profit organization serving children and families in central Iowa. Established in 1965, we serve families in Hardin, Marshall, Poweshiek, Story, and Tama counties. In Grinnell, MICA runs the main food pantry in the community. This position supports the work of the family development center through welcoming and respectful interactions with families, staff and community partners. Will assist low-income families to apply for resources and program services, focused on supporting the food pantry. The student in the position would need to be available to work on either Monday afternoons or Wednesday mornings, preferably both.
