About The Position

The Lifeguard works in the Fitness department at UAB St. Vincent’s, location 119, on a PRN schedule. The role is responsible for protecting pool users, monitoring aquatic areas, enforcing safety policies, and responding to emergencies. The Lifeguard may assist with swim lessons or exercise classes as training allows and maintains water-testing and attendance records in accordance with health department regulations.

Requirements

• BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
• Current Lifeguard certification from the American Lifeguard Association (ALA) or Star Guard Elite.
• High school diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience, or an Associate’s/Technical degree, or 4 years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.

Responsibilities

• Guard the safety of pool users and respond to emergencies.
• Inspect aquatic areas regularly and report maintenance concerns and worn equipment.
• Explain pool rules, remain vigilant, and enforce policies to help ensure the safety of aquatic-area users.
• Educate participants about aquatic safety policies for all aquatic areas.
• Assist with swim lessons or exercise classes as training allows.
• Report incidents and injuries according to department regulations.
• Conduct chemical tests and maintain accurate water-test and attendance records in accordance with health department regulations.
