About The Position

The Lifeguard is responsible for maintaining a safe and positive aquatic environment by supervising pool activities, enforcing safety rules, preventing accidents, and responding to emergencies. Responsibilities include water rescue, first aid, CPR, and ensuring members safely engage in aquatic activities.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Current Lifeguard Certification
  • Current CPR Certification
  • TB Risk Assessment and Examination completed within 30 days of hire
  • Acceptable annual Family Care Safety Registry screening per Missouri requirements
  • Acceptable annual nationwide background screening meeting Boys & Girls Clubs of America standards
  • Completion of all required annual training hours per state licensing regulations
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, swim, and remain alert for extended periods
  • Ability to communicate clearly in noisy environments
  • Ability to perform water rescues, administer first aid, and CPR
  • Professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Maintain constant supervision of members using the pool facility
  • Enforce pool safety rules and behavior expectations
  • Respond immediately to emergencies, injuries, and unsafe conditions
  • Perform water rescues, first aid, and CPR when necessary
  • Monitor pool areas and equipment for safety hazards
  • Report and document accidents, incidents, and behavioral concerns
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe aquatic environment
  • Ensure rescue equipment and pool supplies are properly maintained and stored
  • Report facility maintenance or safety concerns promptly
  • Follow all organizational policies, licensing requirements, and safety procedures
  • Understand and follow bloodborne pathogen and universal precaution procedures
  • Report suspected abuse or neglect as required by mandated reporter laws
  • Support successful inspections and compliance standards
  • Maintain professional relationships with members, families, staff, and volunteers
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally at all times
  • Promote a positive, safe, and inclusive environment
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality
  • Keep all certifications current
  • Participate in required meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities
  • Provide appropriate notice for absences
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
